Dress Up Clothing or Lingerie

Remember how I feel about trends, horrible trends, my fashionable future? Well now I'm going to tell you how I feel about little girls dress up clothes.

A sweet little girl I babysit for recieved a dress up trunk for her birthday. Not just a dress up trunk, but a Disney Princess dress-up trunk. She was so excited to show me all of her goodies and for me to "ooh" and "ahh" over her as she modeled her new wardrobe for me.

Only I nearly fell out of my chair.

The clothing in this trunk was only fit for a woman in the bedroom! Snow White's dress was a tube top with a choker and little cuffs to fit just on your wrists. Cinderella was a tube top (as in bandeau with the tummy hanging out) and separate little puffed "sleeves" for the shoulders. Both outfits boasted micro mini skirts. Sleeping Beauty and Belle were equally appalling. It was atrocious! I kept wondering where the fishnet stockings were because it would have been very appropriate for the outfits/costumes.

I don't have children yet, but moments like this make me vow to dress them only in long plaid skirts, turtlenecks, and knee socks. Apparently society has already decided that sexy is ok for today's youth, but how much sexy is too sexy for children?

What do you consider too much/over the top/totally inappropriate for children (toddlers through teens)?

Ick! I've been making a dress-up box for Elizabeth (age 22 months and still not really interested), and what I do is buy Halloween costumes at Target at 75% off--about $5 each for nice, BODY-COVERING princess dresses and fairy dresses and so forth. I don't have guidelines about what crosses the line per se, but I sure don't like to see little girls ("little" is probably whatever age MY daughter is, up to and past college) showing skin in any way that even HINTS at provocativeness.

I can't possibly figure out why princess dresses would be minis? Little girls love nothing more than long flowing dresses or something to twirl in. Wierd.
The trend I simply loathe, and you see it on little girls, teens & even adults...yoga pants with words written across the butt like "Sweet" or "Princess" or "Juicy" (on a 3 year old!) First of all who wants their ass to be a billboard? Its just disgusting!

I think little girls should dress like little girls. While I think some of the flare jeans are cute, I don't like my 4-year-old's belly to show. So many of the clothes are cut WAY TOO SMALL. Please. We are going to give them a complex about sizes at too young an age!!!

p.s. maybe the princess dress up trunk was the slut edition! ;)

I'm wondering if the dress-up trunk was intended to go on OVER other clothing? That would make more sense.

You also need to think about the fact that these may be made this way so that kids can put them on and take them off easily.
