Fall Break

What is the week long "Fall Break" in the middle of October all about? When I was in school (yes, back when we rode dinosaurs) we got two days for Thanksgiving and were very happy with that. But now there is a week long fall break in October, two days at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, the Monday of every President's birthday, handfuls of half day and full day inservices, another week for spring break, and then there are still 10 weeks of summer.

Why (WHY!?!) wasn't I a teacher?
